SHERYL L. HARMER, ED.D. Education Director

Sheryl L. Harmer, Ed.D. is the Principal of SLPH & Associates, a consulting firm specializing in social-emotional skill development within schools and organizations, family business strategic planning, and systems change. Prior to establishing SLPH & Associates, Harmer served for six years as Director of Program Development at Committee for Children where she was the executive producer of internationally acclaimed video and text curriculum materials.

Harmer?s understanding of teaching and learning is built upon a thirty year career in public schools that included principal of three elementary schools, teacher of special education and mainstream classes, instructor in junior college and university teacher preparation programs, and service on a wide range of state and local professional advisory councils.

Dr. Harmer's work in public education has been recognized through numerous awards at the national and state levels including selection of Glenridge Elementary as a case study site for Harvard University Project SUMIT (Schools Using Multiple Intelligence Theory) in 1996 and selection of Spring Glen Elementary as a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence in 1992. In 1998, Harmer was named Principal of the Year and National Distinguished Principal for Washington State. Currently, Dr. Harmer is engaged in a variety of civic and community development efforts that focus on social and emotional learning across the lifespan through leveraging new media and the emerging sciences of human brain development.
